TikTok organizes a Family Day to raise awareness about its Family Safety and well-being features
In a very unique experience, TikTok, the world’s leading video and entertainment platform, organized a Family Day at Trapped Egypt for parents and teens to highlight the new and different safety guidelines available on the platform.
In light of the platform’s continuous efforts to create a safe community that cares about the safety of its users, TikTok’s event came to highlight the different Family Safety and well-being features. During the event, and through a number of escape rooms, the platform shed light on its “Family Pairing” feature, which allows parents to link their TikTok accounts to their teens’ accounts to customize their TikTok experience and features, such as: Screen Time Management and Restricted Mode, Private account, Comment on Videos, Direct Messages and the Search feature.
Over a series of TikTok focused clues at Trapped Egypt, the platform educated participants on the various ways to manage their account settings on the platform, like, accounts for users aged under 16 will be automatically set to private and their published content can only be viewed by users who have obtained approval to follow their accounts. In addition, users over 16 can choose either to set their accounts as public or private accounts; still, the option to limit the audience for private videos is always available from the privacy settings regardless of account type.
TikTok also reminded attendees of the other family safety and well-being features available on the platform that ensure a customized viewing experience for all its users. The “Restricted Mode” feature, for instance, allows users to limit the appearance of content that may not be suitable, while the option of selecting who can send you “Direct Messages” are only available to registered accounts who are 16 and older – and it’s one of the features that a parent or caregiver can restrict or turn off with Family Pairing. Moreover, the platform provides an in-app feature to Filter All Comments so that comments are not displayed unless approved by the video creator, and users can create a custom list of keywords so that comments containing these words are also automatically hidden.
To allow users to express themselves creatively and be entertained in a safe, secure, and welcoming environment, TikTok continues its ceaseless in-app safety measures to further support the well-being of its community and the integrity of the platform.
The event came to highlight that the platform’s top priority is the safety, security, and privacy of its community and how its constantly working to enhance and advance its security efforts to safeguard the platform as a destination for self-expression, creativity, and joy. TikTok continues to review and strengthen their policies to help everyone feel comfortable and safe to create and share on TikTok.
